Kenya is a country of great contrasts, with bustling cities, pristine beaches and vast expanses of open savannah. However, life in Kenya is not always easy, and many people struggle to make a living in the harsh conditions of the country’s northern region. The Pastoralist Alliance for Resilience and Adaptation in Northern Rangelands (PARAN) is an NGO that is working to improve the growth and sustainability of northern Kenya’s pastoralist communities. PARAN works with local partners to provide training and support in areas such as water management, grazing land conservation and climate-smart agriculture. The organisation also runs income-generating projects such as honey production and\\ livestock insurance schemes. By helping pastoralists to adapt to the changing environment and economy, PARAN is playing a vital role in ensuring the long-term viability of these communities.
