The Community Land Act (2013) is a landmark legislation that gives communities the right to own and control their lands but implementation has been slow. The challenge is to ensure that community members fully understand their rights under the law and how to take advantage of these by developing community-based natural resource management arrangements as part of climate change adaptation strategies in Baragoi sub County, Samburu county.
To ensure that the community of Samburu County fully understand and internalize the Community Land Act and to develop a community led natural resource management plan at Baragoi sub county.
The objectives of this project are:
To build the capacity of indigenous communities to fully understand and internalize the provisions of The Community Land Act (CPA) before it becomes operational;
To facilitate effective implementation of CPA through developing a community based natural resource management plan at Baragoi sub county;
To enhance climate change resilience and adaptation by developing a framework for sustainable use/management of land resources within communities utilizing principles enshrined in CPA such as shared access, joint ownership, benefit sharing, gender equity etcetera
